Eavesdrop on Satan’s chat with God!

Satan, May 29

Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came among them. And the LORD said to Satan, “From where do you come?”
So Satan answered the LORD and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking back and forth on it.”
Then the LORD said to Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil?”
So Satan answered the LORD and said, “Does Job fear God for nothing? Have You not made a hedge around him, around his household, and around all that he has on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land. But now, stretch out Your hand and touch all that he has, and he will surely curse You to Your face!”
And the LORD said to Satan, “Behold, all that he has is in your power; only do not lay a hand on his person.”
So Satan went out from the presence of the LORD.

Job 1:6-12, www.solascriptura.com

Father, we know how this story from the Book of Job turned out.  Job, (after many trials, was greatly blessed) but here we learn some very important facts about Satan, prior to him being cast out of heaven. Satan, a blessed, but eternally fallen angel, became Your enemy and the enemy of all those who love You.

Here we see that Satan has powers to tempt us (to sin), granted by the Father. Father, this excerpt makes a powerful point. Satan is claiming that some men love You who are blessed by You and that if their blessings are taken away, apparently for no good reason, they will abandon their faith in You.

Father, we too face the same temptation. When we lose our resources (home, money, jobs, a loved one, etc.) we are greatly saddened and the test ensues. What will be our response?  We know Job’s response was one of continued faith and patience, even when Satan was allowed to attack his physical health in a final attempt to break his spirit.

Father, life is a cherished reality and when the quality of this life is threatened, we are severely tested. It is at that time that we pray You will show us the wonders of Your presence and creation and the enduring strength of Your Holy Spirit in us. We know that to be absent from the body is to be present with You, provided we have committed our spirit to be joined with Your Spirit. We do not wish to leave as long as You have things You want us to do.

Help us O’God to focus on Your eternal love when the temporary things, which will not survive anyway, are taken away. Bless us and strengthen us this day. In Jesus’ name we pray.

Prayer, Part I, December 26

We know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have ordained,
What is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that You visit him?
For You have made him a little lower than the angels, and You have crowned him with glory and honor.

Romans 8:28, Psalm 8:3-5, www.solascriptura.com

Father, many times we feel things are not working out right. You remind us that all things, not some, always work to the good for those that love you, to those that are called according to Your purpose. In the midst of trials we have a hard time believing things are working out for the good.

Help us, this day, to know You are aware of our every circumstance, always, and that You know the Alpha from the Omega. No event in our lives surprises You. If we can but draw near to You, always, we can be assured that things will work out for the good. We move forward in faith, even when we feel lonely. It is never You who have moved away, it is us.

Father, we are reminded by the Psalmist that You who created all things are mindful of us and visit us, individually. The Scriptures say that even the rocks would cry out if we did not tell men about You. Every created thing, including us, acknowledges You. We are undeserving, but grateful for Your love. In Jesus Holy name, we pray, amen.

Christmas devotion, December 25

…there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
”And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.”
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:
”Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”

Luke 2:11-14, www.solascriptura.com

Father, we celebrate the birth of Jesus as a nation and in many parts of the world. We pray that the physical birth of Christ will lead to the Spiritual birth of our loved ones and a renewed vow by each of us to seek a relationship with You more and more, each day.

As we approach a new year, we pray for higher levels of commitment and more of Your wisdom. We acknowledge You as our personal Savior, Jesus, and we praise Your Holy name among all persons. We pray for peace in our strife filled world. We pray for Your comfort and joy in our hearts and family this entire season.

Father, Your Holy word teaches us that life can only be eternal if we acknowledge Your Son, Jesus, as Lord of our life. We pray that the names of every person we know remain written in the Book of Life. We praise Your Holy name, this day, amen.

What limitations does an angel have?

Wednesday, December 5th, 2012

Angels, December 5

The LORD has established His throne in heaven, and His kingdom rules over all.
Bless the LORD, you His angels, who excel in strength, who do His word, Heeding the voice of His word.
Bless the LORD, all you His hosts, you ministers of His, who do His pleasure.

Psalm 103:19-21, www.solascriptura.com

Father, here we learn that Your angels excel in strength. We sometimes feel the obstacles of life are insurmountable, but we forget that we do not have to accomplish everything in our own strength. It has been said that what we begin in our own strength, we must finish in our own strength. Leaving God out of our plans is a formula for failure, in the long run.

We do not fully understand what kind of power the angels have but since they do Your good pleasure it seems safe to assume they can do anything You want them to do. We often limit our hopes by placing our own earthly perspective on things that simply exceed our understanding and sometimes exceed our faith.

Help us know afresh that Your love for us is greater than our understanding and that as we look to You, constantly, that You take joy in our having done so. We truly never walk alone. Bless us this day, in Jesus name, we pray, amen.

Deny God? Not me, not ever!

Wednesday, November 14th, 2012

Heaven, December 14

”… whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven.
”But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven.

“Take heed that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that in heaven their angels always see the face of My Father who is in heaven.

Matthew 10:32-33, Matthew 18:10, www.solascriptura.com

Jesus, sometimes Your teaching gives us no hedge room. We would like to say we “sort of tell people we love You” but here you seem to be saying, “do it”. What form would You have our confession take? We know that we are to love our enemies and we are to love our neighbors as ourselves, so how can we witness to others without the risk of offending people who just do not want to hear it? Perhaps the answer lies in the second verse.

You tell us that “these little ones” always see Your face. The children are a special treasure in Your eyes. What is it Father that we adults lack? Do we lack the forthright nature of a child? Their innocence is genuine, not contrived. Their faith in Your love and the love of those around them is not like our faith as we mature. Our faith in other adults is usually conditional, based on how things are going at the moment.

Help us today to see that the faith of a child, towards others and toward You, is an enabling factor. It makes telling other people we love You much easier if we have the faith of a child.

As to “denying You before men”, we know that behavior would greatly grieve You. We would actually be putting our souls at risk, forever, if we were to do so. Strengthen our witness and our faith this day, we pray, in Your Holy name, amen.

Just how important is a child to God?

Sunday, October 14th, 2012

God’s Children, October 14

“He who receives you receives Me, and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me.
”He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward. And he who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man’s reward.
”And whoever gives one of these little ones only a cup of cold water in the name of a disciple, assuredly, I say to you, he shall by no means lose his reward.”

Matthew 10:40-42, www.solascriptura.com

Jesus, You teach us that there is a domino effect in our relationships. As we receive one of Your children, it as though we were receiving You and when we receive You it as though we received the Father. We know, from other teachings You have given us, that if we do not receive Your children we are rejecting You. What a vital lesson Jesus. Loving others is how we show our love for You.

Then, Jesus, again you explain to us that caring for the needs of a child, and doing so from a grateful heart, is an act of kindness that will not go unnoticed. We know every child has their own angel and we have truly entertained angels without being aware. Bless the children and help us show Your love to them. We pray in Jesus’ name, amen.

Do you mean angels actually monitor my movements? No way…

Angels, October 11 2008

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in Him I will trust.”
Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the perilous pestilence.
He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge; his truth shall be your shield and buckler.
You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day,
Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.
For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways.
In their hands they shall bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone.

Psalm 91:1-6, Psalm 91:11-12, www.solascriptura.com

Father, we read of Your protection and how we abide under the shadow of Your wings. How is it Father that You can be so aware of our needs and be so ready to help us?

Here, You answer the question; Your angels have charge over us, they are present, they are the ever present reality, sent by You to bear us up, to keep us from stumbling.

Father, that is why we are unafraid when others may be afraid. Pestilence and destruction may come but Your angels are escorting us through every anxiety. We may trip on the pitfalls of this earth but if we do and if we are Yours, we are taken to Your side, we are escorted by angels into Your presence.

Father, can death be joyful? Certainly not for those left behind but Your word tells us that heaven is a perfect place of peace. We do not seek to leave this place before our service to You is complete, so help us today to take every advantage You offer us to love You and to love our neighbor as ourselves. Thank You for sending Your angels to look after us. In Jesus’ name, we pray, amen.

Angels, a figment of our imagination or a fact?

Providence of God, October 8

A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but it shall not come near you.
Only with your eyes shall you look, and see the reward of the wicked.
Because you have made the LORD, who is my refuge, even the Most High, your dwelling place,
No evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling;
For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways.
In their hands they shall bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone.
You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra, the young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot.
”Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name.
He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him.
With long life I will satisfy him, and show him My salvation.”

Psalm 91:1-16, www.solascriptura.com

Father, such promises should serve to bring us to the foot of the Cross, accepting your forgiveness and claiming a personal relationship with You, our Friend, our Redeemer, our Comforter and Strength.

Thank you for placing Your angels in our life, protecting our souls and guiding us into righteousness. We pray this day for clarity of purpose. In Jesus Holy name, we pray, amen.

So, how dangerous, in the eyes of God, is it to offend a child?

Tuesday, September 25th, 2012

God’s Children, September 25

“Take heed that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that in heaven their angels always see the face of My Father who is in heaven.
Then He said to the disciples, “It is impossible that no offenses should come, but woe to him through whom they do come!
“It would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones.

Matthew 18:10, Luke 17:1-2, www.solascriptura.com

Jesus, Your love and protection of our children could not be made more clear. You have assigned an angel to each one and that angel comes from the presence of the Father, to comfort and counsel every child. We know from experience, Jesus, that our children are imperfect. But, it is not their perfect behavior that protects them; they reside in Your righteousness. We know Your desire is that each child grows up to be a person that chooses to serve You, chooses to follow You.

Jesus, if we as adults, somehow interfere with the spiritual development of a child, if we turn a child from You, if we do not teach them the Word and speak of how You are the center of our lives, then You say a very harsh thing to us. “It would be better for him if a millstone was hung around his neck, and he was thrown into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones.”

We get the point Jesus. Your children are Yours. You “loan” them to us, in a sense, and then You observe our behavior toward them. Teach us, today, what steps we can take to improve our mentoring of them. Help us teach them Your Core Christian Values, constantly. We confess that we can not do this without Your Spirit guiding us. Bless us and our children this day. We pray in Jesus’ name, amen.

Do we have access to “certainty” about eternal matters?

Thursday, September 20th, 2012

“Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place.
“Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.
“But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only.
“When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory.

Matthew 24:34-36, Matthew 25:31, www.solascriptura.com

Jesus, You teach us that everything we see around us will pass away; all things will become new. You and Your angels will come and those who love You and whose lives have been encircled by Your righteousness will enter into eternal peace with You, forever.

How, Father, can we speak with such certainty? It is because we believe that Your word is true. Heaven and earth may pass away but Your words will by no means pass away. If that is a fact Father, then the only thing that we have now that will endure is Your word.

Help us today to experience Your presence afresh, to abide in Your word and to learn of Your ways. Father, Your word is indeed a light unto our path. Let us not walk in darkness when the light is at hand. The treasure of eternal life is not buried and You have not kept it from us. Help us to draw near to you today, we pray in Jesus’ Holy name, amen.
