The death of a saint is glorius…the death of an unrepentant sinner is an eternal tragedy.

Revenge, March 25

… it is a righteous thing with God to repay with tribulation those who trouble you,
and to give you who are troubled rest with us when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels,
in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.
These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power…

II Thessalonians 1:6-9, www.solascriptura.com

Jesus, Paul reminds us that when judgment is dispensed it will be a righteous thing because it will be based upon justice. We know Father that the mercy seat sits upon the top of the Ark of the Covenant (the Law) and that mercy will prevail for those who seek it.

Revenge will be taken upon the enemy, not the children of You, Father. We, in sadness and with a sense of despair, see people pursuing sin and running from obedience. Give us, this day, a sense of urgency in our witness to those who seem to be fleeing from You.

The death of a saint is glorious but the death of an unrepentant sinner is an eternal tragedy. Help us focus on the things You would have us do in the face of such circumstances. We know that Your love in us is our only hope in reaching out to others. In Jesus Holy name, we pray, amen.

Noah; why among millions was only one family saved?

Saturday, February 9th, 2013

Temptation, February 9   For if God did not spare the angels who sinned, but cast them down to hell and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved for judgment; and did not spare the ancient world, but saved Noah, one of eight people, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood on the world of the ungodly; and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them to destruction, making them an example to those who afterward would live ungodly; and delivered righteous Lot, who was oppressed by the filthy conduct of the wicked (for that righteous man, dwelling among them, tormented his righteous soul from day to day by seeing and hearing their lawless deeds)– then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust under punishment for the day of judgment, ”I know …, my God, that You test the heart and have pleasure in uprightness… 2 Peter 2:4-9, 1 Chronicles 29:17, www.solascriptura.com Father, will the sins of the world once again bring the kind of destruction described here? Yes, You tell us it will happen again. But Father, so few were saved, so few were righteous in Your eyes. Help us O’God to be among the faithful whose souls are redeemed by the blood of Jesus, the ultimate and final sacrifice made for our sins. Father, you have made it clear that judgment awaits the souls that do not love You and obey You. You also have made it clear that in the midst of our being tested, you have pleasure in our uprightness; our obedience to Your Holy Word.   Teach us every day of your expectations and renew a right Spirit within us constantly. Help us bask in the assurance of Your love for Your children, bringing joy and peace to those around us. In Jesus Holy name, we pray, amen. Bruce Caldwell The Sola Scriptura Project, P.O. Life is not a dead end…God’s grace is a gateway

Prayer, Part I, December 26

We know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have ordained,
What is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that You visit him?
For You have made him a little lower than the angels, and You have crowned him with glory and honor.

Romans 8:28, Psalm 8:3-5, www.solascriptura.com

Father, many times we feel things are not working out right. You remind us that all things, not some, always work to the good for those that love you, to those that are called according to Your purpose. In the midst of trials we have a hard time believing things are working out for the good.

Help us, this day, to know You are aware of our every circumstance, always, and that You know the Alpha from the Omega. No event in our lives surprises You. If we can but draw near to You, always, we can be assured that things will work out for the good. We move forward in faith, even when we feel lonely. It is never You who have moved away, it is us.

Father, we are reminded by the Psalmist that You who created all things are mindful of us and visit us, individually. The Scriptures say that even the rocks would cry out if we did not tell men about You. Every created thing, including us, acknowledges You. We are undeserving, but grateful for Your love. In Jesus Holy name, we pray, amen.

One very bad mark, 666, one good mark; choose!

Tuesday, December 11th, 2012

December 11

From: Family Bible Study, www.solascriptura.com

Three and one half years into the Tribulation Period, after the temple in Jerusalem has been rebuilt and after treaties have been executed with the opponents of Judaism, the anti-Christ will announce that all sacrifices at the temple will cease and the temple will be destroyed. To more fully understand this prophecy please read, The Unmistakable Events which Chronicle the Tribulation (Chapter 9 of the www.israelchosenortheenemy.com website).

When the temple is destroyed, the prince (the anti-Christ) assumes world leadership and insists on subservience from all people. He achieves that through immense persuasive power and logical exhortation (not as a lunatic dressed in a devil’s costume). To make sure that all people comply with his leadership, he ordains that every person must receive the “mark of the beast”. Again, he won’t call it that and he will not appear to be crazy but without the mark, persons cannot “buy and sell”. In other words, the mark would function as a scannable imprint, or a chip imbedded under the skin. We have that technology now as implants in animals. Listen to Merriam-Webster’s definition and the idea will be made clear: Scannable: to pass an electron beam over and convert (an image) into variations of electrical properties (as voltage) that convey information electronically. When you go to the market that is how the “scanner” works.

Now listen to how the Bible describes the scenario: “He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man: His number is 666.” Revelation 13:16-18 NKJV

Then, the Bible makes it clear that accepting the mark is a huge mistake: …”If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives his mark on his forehead or on his hand, he himself shall also drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out full strength into the cup of His indignation. He shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. And the smoke of their torment ascends forever and ever; and they have no rest day or night, who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name.” Revelation 14:9-11 NKJV

It will not be a simple matter to say “no” to the mark. Listen to the fate of those who refused and then understand what God has in store for His faithful servants: “And I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was committed to them. Then I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their witness to Jesus and for the word of God, who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received his mark on their foreheads or on their hands. And they lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years. They shall see His face, and His name shall be on their foreheads.” Revelation 20:3-4, 22:4 NKJV

Since this is an “end times” situation, you may never face the choice of accepting the “mark”. But, do you feel you have the imprint of Christ on your heart now? Have you decided not to follow those who are disobedient? Can people “see” the mark of Jesus on your life? How courageous must your love of God and your neighbors be? Can you withstand temptation, of all kinds, on your own?

Core Christian Value: Choosing to be obedient and faithful to God is a right choice, for eternity. If, in the end, you accept the mark of the beast, in order to buy and sell, you lose. It is God’s mark you want!

What limitations does an angel have?

Wednesday, December 5th, 2012

Angels, December 5

The LORD has established His throne in heaven, and His kingdom rules over all.
Bless the LORD, you His angels, who excel in strength, who do His word, Heeding the voice of His word.
Bless the LORD, all you His hosts, you ministers of His, who do His pleasure.

Psalm 103:19-21, www.solascriptura.com

Father, here we learn that Your angels excel in strength. We sometimes feel the obstacles of life are insurmountable, but we forget that we do not have to accomplish everything in our own strength. It has been said that what we begin in our own strength, we must finish in our own strength. Leaving God out of our plans is a formula for failure, in the long run.

We do not fully understand what kind of power the angels have but since they do Your good pleasure it seems safe to assume they can do anything You want them to do. We often limit our hopes by placing our own earthly perspective on things that simply exceed our understanding and sometimes exceed our faith.

Help us know afresh that Your love for us is greater than our understanding and that as we look to You, constantly, that You take joy in our having done so. We truly never walk alone. Bless us this day, in Jesus name, we pray, amen.

Deny God? Not me, not ever!

Wednesday, November 14th, 2012

Heaven, December 14

”… whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven.
”But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven.

“Take heed that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that in heaven their angels always see the face of My Father who is in heaven.

Matthew 10:32-33, Matthew 18:10, www.solascriptura.com

Jesus, sometimes Your teaching gives us no hedge room. We would like to say we “sort of tell people we love You” but here you seem to be saying, “do it”. What form would You have our confession take? We know that we are to love our enemies and we are to love our neighbors as ourselves, so how can we witness to others without the risk of offending people who just do not want to hear it? Perhaps the answer lies in the second verse.

You tell us that “these little ones” always see Your face. The children are a special treasure in Your eyes. What is it Father that we adults lack? Do we lack the forthright nature of a child? Their innocence is genuine, not contrived. Their faith in Your love and the love of those around them is not like our faith as we mature. Our faith in other adults is usually conditional, based on how things are going at the moment.

Help us today to see that the faith of a child, towards others and toward You, is an enabling factor. It makes telling other people we love You much easier if we have the faith of a child.

As to “denying You before men”, we know that behavior would greatly grieve You. We would actually be putting our souls at risk, forever, if we were to do so. Strengthen our witness and our faith this day, we pray, in Your Holy name, amen.

Will all of my “secrets” be revealed?

Thursday, November 8th, 2012

Words of our mouth, November 8

“… there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, nor hidden that will not be known.
“Therefore whatever you have spoken in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have spoken in the ear in inner rooms will be proclaimed on the housetops.
“Also I say to you, whoever confesses Me before men, him the Son of Man also will confess before the angels of God.
“But he who denies Me before men will be denied before the angels of God.

Luke 12:2-3; 8-9, www.solascriptura.com

Father, Your word has a lot to say about our mouths and how they tend to get us in trouble with others and with You.  Here we are reminded by You, Jesus, that there are no secrets concerning what we have thought and what we have said. Every thought, word and deed will be revealed. That is very scary Jesus because not one of us has failed to make errors in this regard.

Sometimes Father, we realize we have said something stupid when we should have been silent. Here we find that what we said will be proclaimed from the housetops, making our bad judgment even more embarrassing. Help us today Jesus to resolve to think more carefully before we speak, asking ourselves if we are speaking as You might if You were in our place.

Finally, and far more importantly Father, we see that whoever confesses Jesus, that Jesus Himself will proclaim that fact before Your angels. On the other hand Jesus, You tell us if we deny You before men, then you will deny us before the angels of God. That is a simple, direct fact that should motivate us all to proclaim You this day! In Your Holy name we pray, amen.

God knows the numbers of hair on my head…no way.

Tuesday, October 16th, 2012

Peace, October 16

“Are not five sparrows sold for two copper coins? And not one of them is forgotten before God.
“But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.

Luke 12:6-7,  www.solascriptura.com

Jesus, Your exact and specific words tell us that we are never alone, never forgotten and never without Your eye upon us. This is impossible for us to grasp. Our perspective stems from our experiences and we are not able to fully understand the concept of omnipresence. We know You have many angels (perhaps more than we could ever imagine) and that if you know every single aspect of our physical being, Your attention to us exceeds our understanding.

It does give rise to the fact that we should trust You and wait patiently upon Your responses to our needs. It is not as if You do not know our needs, even better than we do, it is just a fact that You do. As to whether You have the same level of concern about those who do not profess to know You, we are unsure. We do know that You desire that all persons love You and that they seek a personal relationship with You.

Help each of us to, as Paul puts it, “apprehend” a relationship with You. Until we are with You we will not quite be there but we continue to run the race set before us. Thank You for giving meaning to the pursuit of life eternal.

Do you mean angels actually monitor my movements? No way…

Angels, October 11 2008

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in Him I will trust.”
Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the perilous pestilence.
He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge; his truth shall be your shield and buckler.
You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day,
Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.
For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways.
In their hands they shall bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone.

Psalm 91:1-6, Psalm 91:11-12, www.solascriptura.com

Father, we read of Your protection and how we abide under the shadow of Your wings. How is it Father that You can be so aware of our needs and be so ready to help us?

Here, You answer the question; Your angels have charge over us, they are present, they are the ever present reality, sent by You to bear us up, to keep us from stumbling.

Father, that is why we are unafraid when others may be afraid. Pestilence and destruction may come but Your angels are escorting us through every anxiety. We may trip on the pitfalls of this earth but if we do and if we are Yours, we are taken to Your side, we are escorted by angels into Your presence.

Father, can death be joyful? Certainly not for those left behind but Your word tells us that heaven is a perfect place of peace. We do not seek to leave this place before our service to You is complete, so help us today to take every advantage You offer us to love You and to love our neighbor as ourselves. Thank You for sending Your angels to look after us. In Jesus’ name, we pray, amen.

Angels, a figment of our imagination or a fact?

Monday, October 8th, 2012

Providence of God, October 8

A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but it shall not come near you.
Only with your eyes shall you look, and see the reward of the wicked.
Because you have made the LORD, who is my refuge, even the Most High, your dwelling place,
No evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling;
For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways.
In their hands they shall bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone.
You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra, the young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot.
”Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name.
He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him.
With long life I will satisfy him, and show him My salvation.”

Psalm 91:1-16, www.solascriptura.com

Father, such promises should serve to bring us to the foot of the Cross, accepting your forgiveness and claiming a personal relationship with You, our Friend, our Redeemer, our Comforter and Strength.

Thank you for placing Your angels in our life, protecting our souls and guiding us into righteousness. We pray this day for clarity of purpose. In Jesus Holy name, we pray, amen.
