Is there any reason that God might not be listening to me?

Sunday, April 7th, 2013

Prayer, April 7

I waited patiently for the LORD; and He inclined to me, and heard my cry.
He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my steps.
He has put a new song in my mouth– praise to our God; many will see it and fear, and will trust in the LORD.
Blessed is that man who makes the LORD his trust, and does not respect the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.

Psalm 40:1-4, www.solascriptura.com

Father, sometimes we feel that nothing is going right. This Psalm tells us that when we patiently wait upon You, in the midst of struggles, you do incline Your ear to us; You do hear our cry.

You take us from the feeling of being alone and lost to being lifted up, comforted and encouraged. You put a new song in our heart when we turn to You. Nothing in this world can comfort us as You can and no one understands our needs as You do. Lead us to that quiet zone of Your presence when we feel impotent.

Your word says blessed is the man who trusts You and does not look to other persons here for the kind of leadership and comfort that only You can give. Help us today to seek You in all things, at all times. In Jesus’ Holy name, we pray, amen.

People can disappoint us. God is totally trustworthy.

Sunday, February 10th, 2013

Hope, February 10 My soul, wait silently for God alone, for my expectation is from Him. He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defense; I shall not be moved. In God is my salvation and my glory; the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God. Trust in Him at all times, you people; pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us… Psalm 62:5-8, www.solascriptura.com Father, as we look about and decide who it is we can depend upon and who it is we can trust, our hearts and mind turn to You. You are the unchanging, ever-present force in our lives. Our expectations and hopes are centered upon You, not upon transitional persons or images made by man. You alone are our rock and our salvation. We look to You in times of trouble and we love it when You make our heart joyful with incomparable blessings; eternal blessings! We pour our heart out to You in hope and in praise. Help us today not to become depressed by the sin and pain all around us but to instead seek You and Your will for the lives of all the persons in the world. We love You in good times and in difficult times and we know Your eyes are constantly upon us. We pray in the Holy name of Jesus. Amen. Bruce Caldwell The Sola Scriptura Project, P.O. Trouble surrounds me. Where can I find refuge?

Wednesday, December 19th, 2012

God’s Gifts, December 19

In the multitude of my anxieties within me, Your comforts delight my soul.
But the LORD has been my defense, and my God the rock of my refuge.

Psalm 94:19, 22, www.solascriptura.com

Father, these brief words remind us that most of us have a multitude of anxieties which distract us from the comfort of Your presence. When, in the midst of anxiety, we are able to step back and remember the transitional nature of most circumstances, we can find comfort in our eternal relationship with You.

You have taught us that everything that is physical will pass away, including us, and that everything of the Spirit will endure forever. We get so caught up in worrying about the present that we sometimes lose sight of the promises of eternity.

Help us learn today that the present is vitally important in terms of our service to You and to those we meet. Let us not be anxious about what we can not change and to work diligently to change everything that needs changing, as prescribed by You.

You are truly our Rock, our place of refuge in good times and bad times. Help us look up when our hearts are heavy and to know You are totally aware of our needs. What a wonderful fact upon which we can rely.

Bless us, this day, in Jesus’ Holy name.

If not God, who is it that you trust?

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2012

Prayer, Part I, October 3

In You, O LORD, I put my trust; let me never be ashamed; deliver me in Your righteousness.
Bow down Your ear to me, deliver me speedily; be my rock of refuge, a fortress of defense to save me.
For You are my rock and my fortress; therefore, for Your name’s sake, lead me and guide me.

Psalm 31:1-3, www.solascriptura.com

Lord and Father, it is not a small thing to say that we put our trust in You. We do not know what the next moment will bring but we know that You do. Help us never to be ashamed of our “dependence” on You. To whom other than You could we turn? We seek Your righteousness, in each of us, this day.

We know Father that we can not have it both ways, our worthiness, our wisdom, our independent achievements and at the same time Your righteousness. We confess that our lower nature doggedly pursues us. It is Your perfection in us that we seek.

Help us not only lean upon You but to be lifted by You to a heavenly nature here in this earthly place. In Jesus Holy name, we pray, amen.

Thank you Billy… a great warrior of God

Prayer, August 14
Billy Graham’s Prayer For Our Nation

‘Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and to seek your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says, ‘Woe to those who call evil good,’ but that is exactly what we have done. We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values. We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery. We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare. We have killed our unborn and called it choice. We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable… We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self esteem. We have abused power and called it politics. We have coveted our neighbor’s possessions and called it ambition. We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression. We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment. Search us, Oh God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from sin and Set us free. Amen!’
With the Lord’s help, may this prayer sweep over our nation and wholeheartedly become our desire so that we once again can be called ‘One nation under God!’

He shall judge the world in righteousness, and He shall administer judgment for the peoples in uprightness.
The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.
And those who know Your name will put their trust in You; for You, LORD, have not forsaken those who seek You.
Sing praises to the LORD, who dwells in Zion! Declare His deeds among the people.
… he does not forget the cry of the humble.

Psalm 9:8-12, www.solascriptura.com

Father, the one thing we can depend upon is Your righteous judgment. You will judge the world fairly and You have taught us the basis of Your judgment. How can we know what You expect? You teach us every day to look to Your word for guidance and wisdom. Everything seems transitional as we observe the changing values of the world. Thank You, Father, for being our rock, our never changing anchor.

O’God, we trust You and we turn to You. We not deserve Your grace and mercy; You simply offer it to us, in spite of ourselves. We sing praises to Your name, in our heart, all day and when we forget to do so, remind us of Your presence in all things and in all our experiences.

You do not forget the cry of the humble. We see that this is a promise and a warning. Keep us from pride and a sense of self-sufficiency. We pray in Jesus’ name, amen. (and thank You for Billy’s witness)

Want a better view? Stand upon the Rock!

Saturday, August 4th, 2012

Prayer, August 4

Hear me, O LORD, for Your lovingkindness is good; turn to me according to the multitude of Your tender mercies.

HEAR my cry, O God; attend to my prayer.
From the end of the earth I will cry to You, when my heart is overwhelmed; lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

Psalm 69:16, Psalm 61:1-2 www.solascriptura.com

Father, when we pray to You, we have assurance that You hear. Teach us to seek Your will this day, in all that we do; to include You in our decisions and to have our countenance be as Yours, Jesus.

You are the Rock, our Redeemer and You lift us to a higher place. Father, we await Your intervention, that moment when we will stand in Your Holy presence.

Help us know that the time You give us here amounts to an asset that we must invest wisely, seeking to bring glory and honor to Your name.

Hear our prayers O’God and strengthen our resolve to serve You. In Jesus Holy name, we pray, amen.
