Providence of God, May 17
He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love,
in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.
For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.
And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.
And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.
For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell,
and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross.
And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled
in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight.
Colossians 1:13-22, www.solascriptura.com
Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit, Paul has clarified that you are One and that You, Jesus came to us from the presence of the Father. Sometimes Father we speak to You and do not think about Jesus and You as One and sometimes Jesus we speak to you as separate from the Father, sent by the Father.
Help us O’God not to worry about such matters but to learn that You are three in one, serving us in distinct capacities. Thank You Jesus for the redemptive act of the Cross and for sending the Holy Spirit to abide with and in us.
Is it any wonder Father that Jesus and His angels will come to separate the saints from the sinners? You have extended all power to Him and it is by His shed blood that we will enter into Your presence. You, Yourself Father will judge among the saints, and although that is a comfort, because we will be with You, it reminds us that our salvation was purchased at a great price and that our enthusiastic response of love and obedience is Your expectation.
Our righteousness is as filthy rags. It is your righteousness Jesus that enables us to stand in the presence of the Father. Help us be “over comers” every moment of every day, turning to You for empowerment and comfort.

Mind of Christ, April 16
Therefore let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father.
And this is the promise that He has promised us—eternal life.
These things I have written to you concerning those who try to deceive you.
But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.
And now, little children, abide in Him, that when He appears, we may have confidence and not be ashamed before Him at His coming.
I John 2:24-28, www.solascriptura.com
Father, You tell us that “if” what we heard from the beginning, the new covenant written on our hearts, abides in us, You teach us all things. Father, let not our hearts be blinded by sinful actions and hardened for eternity. We pray that You do abide in us in a life-changing way and that Your presence, every moment, is a source of strength and light.
We know Father, that where Light abides, Your Light, there is no darkness. Help us today to turn to the Light in us, to seek to have You illuminate our paths and to comfort us in the midst of life’s inevitable trials. In Your Holy name we pray, amen.

Prayer, Part 2, April 14
The LORD has said to Me, ‘You are My Son, today I have begotten You. You have heard my voice: “Do not hide Your ear from my sighing, from my cry for help.”
You drew near on the day I called on You, and said, “Do not fear!”
O Lord, You have pleaded the case for my soul; you have redeemed my life.
Psalm 2:7, Lamentations 3:56-58, www.solascriptura.com
Father, Just as You declared Jesus, as Your only begotten Son, You assure us that we can cry out as Jeremiah did, for Your help. We know Father that Jesus made it possible for us to come into Your presence, cleansed, and prepared to speak to You.
We can stand before You without fear, though we shall surely be overwhelmed when we do so. You have provided a Lamb, a perfect stand-in for our sins and we joyfully accept Your gift of life but at the same time we feel so unworthy. The fact that Jesus “pleads our case” places it all in perspective. He is the perfect Advocate!
Help us today to see that our worthiness is not a result of our works but of our faith in You, Jesus and Your grace and love to us, Father.
Lead us this day to be like You, Jesus, we pray, amen.

Forgiven, March 12
… Because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!”
Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.
Galatians 4:6-7, www.solascriptura.com
Father, we have learned that “Abba” is translated as Daddy, a term of endearment we use to express love and trust. Has anyone that has embraced a child not understood what a privilege it is to be as “Daddy or Mommy” to a child? There is nothing more tender than a child absorbing the love and embrace of their father or mother.
This scripture teaches us of Your love. It is a scripture that says we are no longer slaves, but we are Your children, You are our Father, who tenderly loves us. You say we are heirs to Your throne because Jesus has cleansed us and we are now encapsulated in His purity. We do not come into Your presence Father on our own merit. We are only able to enter into Your presence because we have been regenerated from sinner to son, from failures in the flesh, to sons and daughters able to radiate Your love.
When we see the purity of our children, our babies, we see a picture of how we appear to You. Innocent, even though guilty, cleansed even though we need daily renewal. Bless us as we seek Your perfection. In Jesus’ Holy name, we pray, amen.

Prayer, Part I, January 31 …there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account. Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:13-16, www.solascriptura.com Father, we stand before You all day, every day, completely exposed. We have no secret thoughts or actions and You tell us here that we must give an account for our decisions. Sending Jesus to us, to be tempted as we are, and then raising Him up as our eternal High Priest, gives us an advocate unlike any other. Our Jesus knows what we are encountering and is there for us, all the time. We come boldly to You Jesus, seeking Your love and guidance that the grace of God may prevail in our lives. In Jesus Holy name, we pray, amen. Bruce Caldwell The Sola Scriptura Project, P.O. Box 302, Franklin TN 37064

God’s Children, January 23
My son, if your heart is wise, my heart will rejoice—indeed, I myself;
Yes, my inmost being will rejoice when your lips speak right things.
Do not let your heart envy sinners, but be zealous for the fear of the LORD all the day;
For surely there is a hereafter, and your hope will not be cut off.
Hear, my son, and be wise; and guide your heart in the way.
Listen to your father who begot you, and do not despise your mother when she is old.
Buy the truth, and do not sell it, also wisdom and instruction and understanding.
The father of the righteous will greatly rejoice, and he who begets a wise child will delight in him.
Let your father and your mother be glad, and let her who bore you rejoice.
My son, give me your heart, and let your eyes observe my ways.
Proverbs 23:15-19; 22-26
Father, we can identify with Solomon when he says his heart rejoices when his child’s heart is wise and when the child speaks the truth and that you rejoice when our lips speak the right things.
Father, it brings us great joy when our children please You and sorrow when they do not. Is it the same with us Father? Yes, Your heart rejoices when we please you and You have taught us that it grieves You when we willfully sin.
We pray that our children will never envy sinners and we are happy when they honor their mother and father. Help us, today, to set a good example for our children. We are so imperfect as parents that few of us can say, “Do as I do”.
We pray that our children look to You, Jesus, as the Savior, counselor, guide and comforter and that we do the same. We pray in Jesus’ name, amen.

God’s Children, December 20
…a wise son makes a glad father, but a foolish son is the grief of his mother.
He who gathers in summer is a wise son, but he who sleeps in harvest is a son who causes shame.
“Now therefore, listen to me, my children, for blessed are those who keep my ways.
Hear instruction and be wise, and do not disdain it.
Proverbs 10:1; 5, Proverbs 8:32-33, www.solascriptura.com
Father, such wisdom seems obvious to us but we do experience both grief and joy as parents. Help us, today, with those circumstances wherein children are alienated from us as parents. We are so tempted to blame the child when they misbehave but it is the heart of the child that has lost focus.
Father, we want to be effective, in our role as parents, to train up our children in the way of the Lord so that they may not depart from Your will when stressful situations come upon them. We surely will be held accountable by You for teaching them Your word.
We pray for wisdom and understanding within our families and for Your hand upon every aspect of our lives and our children’s lives. Bless us this day, in Jesus’ Holy name, amen.

God’s Children, November 21
Whoever keeps the law is a discerning son, but a companion of gluttons shames his father.
The rod and rebuke give wisdom, but a child left to himself brings shame to his mother.
Correct your son, and he will give you rest; yes, he will give delight to your soul.
Proverbs 28:7, Proverbs 29:15, 17, www.solascriptura.com
Father, we all truly want our children to obey your law and to avoid being unduly influenced by kids who do not know You or at least their habits seem to indicate that they do not have a strong relationship with You. We prefer our children be witnesses of Your love, not victims of poor choices, often promulgated by others. Give our children discernment and the courage to be different, we pray.
O’God, our children are under a constant barrage of sinful messages from almost every angle. We try to protect them, to limit their exposure to sin and sinful people but we need Your help in correcting them in a way that brings glory to You.
Help us today to be firm in our convictions and to lovingly relay them to our children. Teach us not to be a bad example to our children but to show them, by our words and actions, how much we love them and You.
When discipline must come Father, help us teach our children that a tree pruned is a tree that will bear more fruit. Jesus, our desire is to be like You as we try to direct our children. We pray in Your Holy name, amen.

The Narrow Gate, November 12
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
”For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
”He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
”And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
”For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.
”But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.”
John 3:16-21, www.solascriptura.com
Jesus, here we listen to words directly from You. What a privilege it is to be taught by You, our Messiah. Believing in You is the cornerstone of our faith. Thank You for such simplicity. In believing, we are born again, new creatures in You, prepared to live a life of service and to be in eternity with all those that love You.
You are the light, Jesus. As we come to You we are directed and taught, as friends. In seeking You and Your Holy word, fervently, we are voluntarily coming to the light that our lives might be clearly seen as a loving witness of Your presence in us.
We can see from Your word that everyone who practices evil will not reside in Your light now or in eternity. We pray for those whose souls, by their own choice, reside in darkness. Draw them to the light, redeem their souls, we pray, in Jesus’ name, amen.

God’s Gifts, November 5
…we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.
And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.
What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us?
He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all-how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?
Romans 8:28-31, www.solascriptura.com
Father, our vision is as limited as our certainty of our life span. We can not see very far ahead and we are uncertain of whether we will even be alive tomorrow. We always want to hedge our statements about what we are going to do by saying “Lord willing” I will do such and such. How else could it be? We do not control outcomes yet here You promise us that You do. We can trust in You to lead us if we live “according to Your purpose”.
We also can see that if we do not live according to Your purpose we can not be assured that all things will work out as You had willed. You do allow us to run away from Your perfect will. Yet, in the next verse You teach us that we are “predestined” to be as Jesus. Father, we know that You know who will respond to Your ever-present call.
We also know that it is by Your grace that we are saved and not of our own works. Merit badges will not open the door of the kingdom for one who does not know You. It is our faith in Jesus’ redemptive act, our cleansing by His shed blood and our will to seek to be like Jesus that saves us, all made possible by Your grace and mercy.
Since You are omniscient Father, knowing all things from the Alpha to the Omega, the beginning and the end, You knew who would place their hand in Yours and become heirs to the kingdom. Yet, in Deuteronomy 31:19, You say: …I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live.
O’God, we thank you for Jesus, our Redeemer, our Friend and Comforter. We choose life Father, that each of us and each of our children may live. Amen.
