Genesis 4:7
7 "If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do
well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should
rule over it."
Neh 13:14
14 Remember me, O my God,... and do not wipe out my good deeds
that I have done for the house of my God, and for its services!
Ps 37:3-5
3 Trust in the LORD, and do good...
4 Delight yourself also in the LORD, and He shall give you the
desires of your heart.
5 Commit your way to the LORD...
Ps 90:10-12,17
10 The days of our lives are seventy years; and if by reason of
strength they are eighty years, yet their boast is only labor
and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.
11 Who knows the power of Your anger? For as the fear of You,
so is Your wrath.
12 So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of
wisdom.
17 And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us, and establish
the work of our hands for us; yes, establish the work of our hands.
Prov 11:24-31
24 There is one who scatters, yet increases more; and there is
one who withholds more than is right, but it leads to poverty.
25 The generous soul will be made rich, and he who waters will
also be watered himself.
26 The people will curse him who withholds grain, but blessing
will be on the head of him who sells it.
27 He who earnestly seeks good finds favor, but trouble will come
to him who seeks evil.
28 He who trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous will
flourish like foliage.
29 He who troubles his own house will inherit the wind, and the
fool will be servant to the wise of heart.
30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and he who wins
souls is wise.
31 If the righteous will be recompensed on the earth, how much
more the ungodly and the sinner.
Prov 12:11-12,14,24,27-28
11 He who tills his land will be satisfied with bread, but he
who follows frivolity is devoid of understanding.
12 The wicked covet the catch of evil men, but the root of the
righteous yields fruit.
14 A man will be satisifed with good by the fruit of his mouth,
and the recompense of a man's hands will be rendered to him.
24 The hand of the diligent will rule, but the lazy man will be
put to forced labor.
27 The lazy man does not roast what he took in hunting, but diligence
is man's precious possession.
28 In the way of righteousness is life, and in its pathway there
is no death.
Ezek 18:5-9
5 ... if a man is just and does what is lawful and right;
6 If he has not eaten on the mountains, nor lifted up his eyes
to the idols of the house of Israel, nor defiled his neighbor's
wife, nor approached a woman during her impurity;
7 If he has not oppressed anyone, but has restored to the debtor
his pledge; has robbed no one by violence, but has given his bread
to the hungry and covered the naked with clothing;
8 If he has not exacted usury nor taken any increase, but has
withdrawn his hand from iniquity and executed true judgment between
man and man;
9 If he has walked in My statutes and kept My judgments faithfully--
he is just; he shall surely live!" Says the Lord GOD.
Matt 6:1-4
1 "Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men,
to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father
in heaven.
2 "Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet
before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets,
that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they
have their reward.
3 "But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand
know what your right hand is doing,
4 "that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father
who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly.
1 Sam 16:7
7 ...for the LORD does not see as man sees; for man looks at the
outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart."
Matt 18:5
5 "Whoever receives one little child ... in My name receives Me.
Matt 10:42
42 "... whoever gives one of these little ones only a cup of cold
water in the name of a disciple, assuredly, I say to you, he shall
by no means lose his reward."
John 15:1-15
1 "I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser.
2 "Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away;
and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear
more fruit.
3 "You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken
to you.
4 "Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit
of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless
you abide in Me.
5 "I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and
I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.
6 "If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch
and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the
fire, and they are burned.
7 "If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask
what you desire, and it shall be done for you.
8 "By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so
you will be My disciples.
9 "As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My
love.
10 "If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just
as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love.
11 "These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain
in you, and that your joy may be full.
12 "This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have
loved you.
13 "Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's
life for his friends.
14 "You are My friends if you do whatever I command you.
15 "No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know
what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all
things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you.
1 Cor 9:24-27
24 Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one
receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it.
25 And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all
things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for
an imperishable crown.
26 Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not
as one who beats the air.
27 But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest,
when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.
Gal 2:20-21
20 "I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live,
but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh
I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself
for me.
21 "I do not set aside the grace of God; for if righteousness
comes through the law, then Christ died in vain."
Col 3:1-25
1 If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which
are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God.
2 Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.
3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
4 When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear
with Him in glory.
5 Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth:
fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness,
which is idolatry.
6 Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the
sons of disobedience,
7 in which you yourselves once walked when you lived in them.
8 But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath,
malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth.
9 Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man
with his deeds,
10 and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according
to the image of Him who created him,
11 where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised,
barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, but Christ is all and in
all.
12 Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender
mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering;
13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone
has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so
you also must do.
14 But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of
perfection.
15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also
you were called in one body; and be thankful.
16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching
and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual
songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of
the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
18 Wives, submit to your own husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.
19 Husbands, love your wives and do not be bitter toward them.
20 Children, obey your parents in all things, for this is well
pleasing to the Lord.
21 Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged.
22 Bondservants, obey in all things your masters according to
the flesh, not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but in sincerity
of heart, fearing God.
23 And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not
to men,
24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the
inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.
25 But he who does wrong will be repaid for what he has done,
and there is no partiality.
2 Cor 5:6-10
6 ...we are always confident, knowing that while we are at home
in the body we are absent from the Lord.
7 For we walk by faith, not by sight.
8 We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from
the body and to be present with the Lord.
9 Therefore we make it our aim, whether present or absent, to
be well pleasing to Him.
10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ,
that each one may receive the things done in the body, according
to what he has done, whether good or bad.
Gal 6:4-10
4 ... let each one examine his own work, and then he will have
rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.
5 For each one shall bear his own load.
6 Let him who is taught the word share in all good things with
him who teaches.
7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows,
that he will also reap.
8 For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption,
but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting
life.
9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season
we shall reap if we do not lose heart.
10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially
to those who are of the household of faith.
Phil 3:1-21
1 ... my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. For me to write the same
things to you is not tedious, but for you it is safe.
2 Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the mutilation!
3 For we are the circumcision, who worship God in the Spirit,
rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh,
4 though I also might have confidence in the flesh. If anyone
else thinks he may have confidence in the flesh, I more so:
5 circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe
of Benjamin, a Hebrew of the Hebrews; concerning the law, a Pharisee;
6 concerning zeal, persecuting the church; concerning the righteousness
which is in the law, blameless.
7 But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for
Christ.
8 Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of
the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered
the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may
gain Christ
9 and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which
is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the
righteousness which is from God by faith;
10 that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and
the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death,
11 if, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the
dead.
12 Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected;
but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus
has also laid hold of me.
13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one
thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching
forward to those things which are ahead,
14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of
God in Christ Jesus.
15 Therefore let us, as many as are mature, have this mind; and
if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal even this
to you.
16 Nevertheless, to the degree that we have already attained,
let us walk by the same rule, let us be of the same mind.
17 Brethren, join in following my example, and note those who
so walk, as you have us for a pattern.
18 For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell
you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ:
19 whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose
glory is in their shame-- who set their mind on earthly things.
20 For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly
wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,
21 who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed
to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is
able even to subdue all things to Himself.
Col 2:5-7
5 ...though I am absent in the flesh, yet I am with you in spirit,
rejoicing to see your good order and the steadfastness of your
faith in Christ.
6 As you have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk
in Him,
7 rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as
you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.
Titus 3:8-11,14
8 This is a faithful saying, and these things I want you to affirm
constantly, that those who have believed in God should be careful
to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable to
men.
9 But avoid foolish disputes, genealogies, contentions, and strivings
about the law; for they are unprofitable and useless.
10 Reject a divisive man after the first and second admonition,
11 knowing that such a person is warped and sinning, being self-condemned.
14 And let our people also learn to maintain good works, to meet
urgent needs, that they may not be unfruitful.
James 2:14-26
14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith
but does not have works? Can faith save him?
15 If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food,
16 and one of you says to them, "Depart in peace, be warmed and
filled," but you do not give them the things which are needed
for the body, what does it profit?
17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
18 But someone will say, "You have faith, and I have works." Show
me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith
by my works.
19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons
believe-- and tremble!
20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without
works is dead?
21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered
Isaac his son on the altar?
22 Do you see that faith was working together with his works,
and by works faith was made perfect?
23 And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, "Abraham believed
God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness." And he was
called the friend of God.
24 You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith
only.
25 Likewise, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works
when she received the messengers and sent them out another way?
26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without
works is dead also.
James 3:8-13
8 But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of
deadly poison.
9 With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men,
who have been made in the similitude of God.
10 Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren,
these things ought not to be so.
11 Does a spring send forth fresh water and bitter from the same
opening?
12 Can a fig tree, my brethren, bear olives, or a grapevine bear
figs? Thus no spring can yield both salt water and fresh.
13 Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by good
conduct that his works are done in the meekness of wisdom.
May God bless
the reading of His Word.
Hebrews 4:12
12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than
any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and
spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts
and intents of the heart.
