Ps 22:1-3, 6-11, 14-19,
22-24
1 My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me? Why are You so far
from helping Me, and from the words of My groaning?
2 O My God, I cry in the daytime, but You do not hear; and in
the night season, and am not silent.
3 But You are holy, enthroned in the praises of Israel.
6 ... I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised
of the people.
7 All those who see Me ridicule Me; they shoot out the lip, they
shake the head, saying,
8 "He trusted in the LORD, let Him rescue Him; let Him deliver
Him, since He delights in Him!"
9 But You are He who took Me out of the womb; you made Me trust
while on My mother's breasts.
10 I was cast upon You from birth. From My mother's womb you have
been My God.
11 Be not far from Me, for trouble is near; for there is none
to help.
14 I am poured out like water, and all My bones are out of joint;
my heart is like wax; it has melted within Me.
15 My strength is dried up like a potsherd, and My tongue clings
to My jaws; you have brought Me to the dust of death.
16 For dogs have surrounded Me; the congregation of the wicked
has enclosed Me. They pierced My hands and My feet;
17 I can count all My bones. They look and stare at Me.
18 They divide My garments among them, and for My clothing they
cast lots.
19 But You, O LORD, do not be far from Me; O My Strength, hasten
to help Me!
22 I will declare Your name to My brethren; in the midst of the
assembly I will praise You.
23 You who fear the LORD, praise Him!...
24 For He has not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the
afflicted; nor has He hidden His face from Him; but when He cried
to Him, He heard.
Ps 69:16-18
16 Hear me, O LORD, for Your lovingkindness is good; turn to me
according to the multitude of Your tender mercies.
17 And do not hide Your face from Your servant, for I am in trouble;
hear me speedily.
18 Draw near to my soul, and redeem it; deliver me because of
my enemies.
Ps 34:21-22
21 Evil shall slay the wicked, and those who hate the righteous
shall be condemned.
22 The LORD redeems the soul of His servants, and none of those
who trust in Him shall be condemned.
Ps 35:1-3, 10-20, 26-27
1 Plead my cause, O LORD, with those who strive with me; fight
against those who fight against me.
2 Take hold of shield and buckler, and stand up for my help.
3 ...Say to my soul, "I am your salvation."
10 All my bones shall say, "LORD, who is like You, delivering
the poor from him who is too strong for him, yes, the poor and
the needy from him who plunders him?"
11 Fierce witnesses rise up; they ask me things that I do not
know.
12 They reward me evil for good, to the sorrow of my soul.
13 But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth;
I humbled myself with fasting; and my prayer would return to my
own heart.
14 I paced about as though he were my friend or brother; I bowed
down heavily, as one who mourns for his mother.
15 But in my adversity they rejoiced and gathered together; attackers
gathered against me, and I did not know it; they tore at me and
did not cease;
16 With ungodly mockers at feasts they gnashed at me with their
teeth.
17 Lord, how long will You look on? Rescue me from their destructions,
my precious life from the lions.
18 I will give You thanks in the great assembly; I will praise
You among many people.
19 Let them not rejoice over me who are wrongfully my enemies;
nor let them wink with the eye who hate me without a cause.
20 For they do not speak peace, but they devise deceitful matters
against the quiet ones in the land.
26 Let them be ashamed and brought to mutual confusion who rejoice
at my hurt; let them be clothed with shame and dishonor who exalt
themselves against me.
27 Let them shout for joy and be glad, who favor my righteous
cause; and let them say continually, "Let the LORD be magnified,
who has pleasure in the prosperity of His servant."
Isa 50:4-9
4 "The Lord GOD has given Me the tongue of the learned, that I
should know how to speak a word in season to him who is weary.
He awakens Me morning by morning, he awakens My ear to hear as
the learned.
5 The Lord GOD has opened My ear; and I was not rebellious, nor
did I turn away.
6 I gave My back to those who struck Me, and My cheeks to those
who plucked out the beard; I did not hide My face from shame and
spitting.
7 "For the Lord GOD will help Me; therefore I will not be disgraced;
therefore I have set My face like a flint, and I know that I will
not be ashamed.
8 He is near who justifies Me; who will contend with Me? Let us
stand together. Who is My adversary? Let him come near Me.
9 Surely the Lord GOD will help Me; who is he who will condemn
Me? ...
Ps 36:9-12
9 ... with You is the fountain of life; in Your light we see light.
10 Oh, continue Your lovingkindness to those who know You, and
Your righteousness to the upright in heart.
11 Let not the foot of pride come against me, and let not the
hand of the wicked drive me away.
12 There the workers of iniquity have fallen; they have been cast
down and are not able to rise.
Ps 64:1-10
1 Hear my voice, O God, in my meditation; preserve my life from
fear of the enemy.
2 Hide me from the secret plots of the wicked, from the rebellion
of the workers of iniquity,
3 Who sharpen their tongue like a sword, and bend their bows to
shoot their arrows-- bitter words,
4 That they may shoot in secret at the blameless; suddenly they
shoot at him and do not fear.
5 They encourage themselves in an evil matter; they talk of laying
snares secretly; they say, "Who will see them?"
6 They devise iniquities: "We have perfected a shrewd scheme."
Both the inward thought and the heart of man are deep.
7 But God shall shoot at them with an arrow; suddenly they shall
be wounded.
8 So He will make them stumble over their own tongue; all who
see them shall flee away.
9 All men shall fear, and shall declare the work of God; for they
shall wisely consider His doing.
10 The righteous shall be glad in the LORD, and trust in Him.
And all the upright in heart shall glory.
Ps 70:4-5
4 Let all those who seek You rejoice and be glad in You; and let
those who love Your salvation say continually, "Let God be magnified!"
5 But I am poor and needy; make haste to me, O God! You are my
help and my deliverer; O LORD, do not delay.
Ps 71:1-5
1 In You, O LORD, I put my trust; let me never be put to shame.
2 Deliver me in Your righteousness, and cause me to escape; incline
Your ear to me, and save me.
3 Be my strong refuge, to which I may resort continually; you
have given the commandment to save me, for You are my rock and
my fortress.
4 Deliver me, O my God, out of the hand of the wicked, out of
the hand of the unrighteous and cruel man.
5 For You are my hope, O Lord GOD; you are my trust from my youth.
Isa 53:1-12
1 ...to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed?
2 ... He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, and as a
root out of dry ground. He has no form or comeliness; and when
we see Him, there is no beauty that we should desire Him.
3 He is despised and rejected by men, a Man of sorrows and acquainted
with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; he was
despised, and we did not esteem Him.
4 Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet
we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted.
5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for
our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and
by His stripes we are healed.
6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned, every one,
to his own way; and the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us
all.
7 He was oppressed and He was afflicted, yet He opened not His
mouth; he was led as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before
its shearers is silent, so He opened not His mouth.
8 He was taken from prison and from judgment, and who will declare
His generation? For He was cut off from the land of the living;
for the transgressions of My people He was stricken.
9 And they made His grave with the wicked-- but with the rich
at His death, because He had done no violence, nor was any deceit
in His mouth.
10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise Him; he has put Him to grief.
When You make His soul an offering for sin, he shall see His seed,
He shall prolong His days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall
prosper in His hand.
11 He shall see the labor of His soul, and be satisfied. By His
knowledge My righteous Servant shall justify many, for He shall
bear their iniquities.
12 Therefore I will divide Him a portion with the great, and He
shall divide the spoil with the strong, because He poured out
His soul unto death, and He was numbered with the transgressors,
and He bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.
Matt 27:38-44
38 ... two robbers were crucified with Him, one on the right and
another on the left.
39 And those who passed by blasphemed Him, wagging their heads
40 and saying, "You who destroy the temple and build it in three
days, save Yourself! If You are the Son of God, come down from
the cross."
41 Likewise the chief priests also, mocking with the scribes and
elders, said,
42 "He saved others; Himself He cannot save. If He is the King
of Israel, let Him now come down from the cross, and we will believe
Him.
43 "He trusted in God; let Him deliver Him now if He will have
Him; for He said, 'I am the Son of God.'"
44 Even the robbers who were crucified with Him reviled Him with
the same thing.
Ps 73:3, 5-8, 11-17
3 ...I was envious of the boastful, when I saw the prosperity
of the wicked.
5 They are not in trouble as other men, nor are they plagued like
other men.
6 Therefore pride serves as their necklace; violence covers them
like a garment.
7 Their eyes bulge with abundance; they have more than heart could
wish.
8 They scoff and speak wickedly concerning oppression; they speak
loftily.
11 And they say, "How does God know? And is there knowledge in
the Most High?"
12 Behold, these are the ungodly, who are always at ease; they
increase in riches.
13 Surely I have cleansed my heart in vain, and washed my hands
in innocence.
14 For all day long I have been plagued, and chastened every morning.
15 If I had said, "I will speak thus," behold, I would have been
untrue to the generation of Your children.
16 When I thought how to understand this, it was too painful for
me
17 Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then I understood their
end.
Ps 120:1
1 In my distress I cried to the LORD, and He heard me.
Heb 12:1-3
1 ... we ..., since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses,
let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares
us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before
us,
2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who
for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising
the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of
God.
3 For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against
Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls.
Ps 140:4-8, 12, 13
4 Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; preserve me from
violent men, who have purposed to make my steps stumble.
5 The proud have hidden a snare for me, and cords; they have spread
a net by the wayside; they have set traps for me...
6 I said to the LORD: "You are my God; hear the voice of my supplications,
O LORD.
7 O GOD the Lord, the strength of my salvation, you have covered
my head in the day of battle.
8 Do not grant, O LORD, the desires of the wicked; do not further
his wicked scheme, lest they be exalted...
12 I know that the LORD will maintain the cause of the afflicted,
and justice for the poor.
13 Surely the righteous shall give thanks to Your name; the upright
shall dwell in Your presence.
Ps 144:1-2
1 Blessed be the LORD my Rock...
2 My lovingkindness and my fortress, my high tower and my deliverer,
my shield and the One in whom I take refuge...
John 15:17-25
17 "...I command you, that you love one another.
18 "If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it
hated you.
19 "If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet
because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world,
therefore the world hates you.
20 "Remember the word that I said to you, 'A servant is not greater
than his master.' If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute
you. If they kept My word, they will keep yours also.
21 "But all these things they will do to you for My name's sake,
because they do not know Him who sent Me.
22 "If I had not come and spoken to them, they would have no sin,
but now they have no excuse for their sin.
23 "He who hates Me hates My Father also.
24 "If I had not done among them the works which no one else did,
they would have no sin; but now they have seen and also hated
both Me and My Father.
25 "But this happened that the word might be fulfilled which is
written in their law, 'They hated Me without a cause.'
Luke 4:24
24 ... "Assuredly, I say to you, no prophet is accepted in his
own country.
2 Tim 3:12
12 Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will
suffer persecution.
1 Pet 2:11-12
11 Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from
fleshly lusts which war against the soul,
12 having your conduct honorable among the Gentiles, that when
they speak against you as evildoers, they may, by your good works
which they observe, glorify God in the day of visitation.
1 Pet 4:1-4, 12-19
1 ...since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves
also with the same mind, for he who has suffered in the flesh
has ceased from sin,
2 that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh
for the lusts of men, but for the will of God.
3 For we have spent enough of our past lifetime in doing the will
of the Gentiles-- when we walked in lewdness, lusts, drunkenness,
revelries, drinking parties, and abominable idolatries.
4 In regard to these, they think it strange that you do not run
with them in the same flood of dissipation, speaking evil of you.
12 Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial
which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to
you;
13 but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ's sufferings,
that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding
joy.
14 If you are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are you,
for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. On their part
He is blasphemed, but on your part He is glorified.
15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer, a thief, an evildoer,
or as a busybody in other people's matters.
16 Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed,
but let him glorify God in this matter.
17 For the time has come for judgment to begin at the house of
God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the end of those
who do not obey the gospel of God?
18 Now "If the righteous one is scarcely saved, where will the
ungodly and the sinner appear?"
19 Therefore let those who suffer according to the will of God
commit their souls to Him in doing good, as to a faithful Creator.
Rom 8:18
18 ... I consider that the sufferings of this present time are
not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed
in us.
May God bless the reading
of His Word.
Heb 4:12
12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than
any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and
spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts
and intents of the heart.
