Prov 18:13
13 He who answers a matter before he hears it, it is folly and
shame to him.
Prov 18:4
4 The words of a man's mouth are deep waters; the wellspring of
wisdom is a flowing brook.
Prov 18:7
7 A fool's mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare
of his soul.
Prov 22:10
10 Cast out the scoffer, and contention will leave; yes, strife
and reproach will cease.
Prov 25:15
15 By long forbearance a ruler is persuaded, and a gentle tongue
breaks a bone.
Ps 52:1-7
1 Why do you boast in evil, O mighty man? The goodness of God
endures continually.
2 Your tongue devises destruction, like a sharp razor, working
deceitfully.
3 You love evil more than good, lying rather than speaking righteousness...
4 You love all devouring words, you deceitful tongue.
5 God shall likewise destroy you forever; he shall take you away,
and pluck you out of your dwelling place, and uproot you from
the land of the living...
6 The righteous also shall see and fear, and shall laugh at him,
saying,
7 "Here is the man who did not make God his strength, but trusted
in the abundance of his riches, and strengthened himself in his
wickedness."
Prov 29:20
20 Do you see a man hasty in his words? There is more hope for
a fool than for him.
Exod 20:16
16 "You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
Exod 23:1
1 "You shall not circulate a false report. Do not put your hand
with the wicked to be an unrighteous witness.
Ps 5:9
9 For there is no faithfulness in their mouth; their inward part
is destruction; their throat is an open tomb; they flatter with
their tongue.
Ps 12:2-4
2 They speak idly everyone with his neighbor; with flattering
lips and a double heart they speak.
3 May the LORD cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that
speaks proud things,
4 Who have said, "With our tongue we will prevail; our lips are
our own; who is lord over us?"
Ps 31:18-20,23
18 Let the lying lips be put to silence, which speak insolent
things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous.
19 Oh, how great is Your goodness, which You have laid up for
those who fear You, which You have prepared for those who trust
in You in the presence of the sons of men!
20 You shall hide them in the secret place of Your presence from
the plots of man; you shall keep them secretly in a pavilion from
the strife of tongues.
23 Oh, love the LORD, all you His saints! For the LORD preserves
the faithful, and fully repays the proud person.
Lev 19:11-12
11 'You shall not steal, nor deal falsely, nor lie to one another.
12 'And you shall not swear by My name falsely, nor shall you
profane the name of your God: I am the LORD.
Job 27:4-5
4 My lips will not speak wickedness, nor my tongue utter deceit.
5 ...till I die I will not put away my integrity from me.
Eccl 3:1,7
1 To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under
heaven:
7 A time to tear, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and
a time to speak;
Ps 62:5
5 My soul, wait silently for God alone, for my expectation is
from Him.
Prov 17:27-28
27 He who has knowledge spares his words, and a man of understanding
is of a calm spirit.
28 Even a fool is counted wise when he holds his peace; when he
shuts his lips, he is considered perceptive.
Ps 101:5
5 Whoever secretly slanders his neighbor, him I will destroy;
the one who has a haughty look and a proud heart, him I will not
endure.
James 4:11
11 Do not speak evil of one another, brethren. He who speaks evil
of a brother and judges his brother, speaks evil of the law and
judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of
the law but a judge.
Prov 25:23-24
23 The north wind brings forth rain, and a backbiting tongue an
angry countenance.
24 It is better to dwell in a corner of a housetop, than in a
house shared with a contentious woman.
Jer 9:3-9
3 "... like their bow they have bent their tongues for lies. They
are not valiant for the truth on the earth. For they proceed from
evil to evil, and they do not know Me," says the LORD.
4 "Everyone take heed to his neighbor, and do not trust any brother;
for every brother will utterly supplant, and every neighbor will
walk with slanderers.
5 Everyone will deceive his neighbor, and will not speak the truth;
they have taught their tongue to speak lies; they weary themselves
to commit iniquity.
6 Your dwelling place is in the midst of deceit; through deceit
they refuse to know Me," says the LORD.
7 Therefore thus says the LORD of hosts: "Behold, I will refine
them and try them; for how shall I deal with the daughter of My
people?
8 Their tongue is an arrow shot out; it speaks deceit; one speaks
peaceably to his neighbor with his mouth, but in his heart he
lies in wait.
9 Shall I not punish them for these things?" says the LORD. "Shall
I not avenge Myself on such a nation as this?"
Luke 6:45
45 "A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth
good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings
forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.
Matt 12:36-37
36 "But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they
will give account of it in the day of judgment.
37 "For by your words you will be justified, and by your words
you will be condemned."
Prov 11:9
9 The hypocrite with his mouth destroys his neighbor, but through
knowledge the righteous will be delivered.
Ps 34:13-18
13 Keep your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking deceit.
14 Depart from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.
15 The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, and His ears are
open to their cry.
16 The face of the LORD is against those who do evil, to cut off
the remembrance of them from the earth.
17 The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears, and delivers them
out of all their troubles.
18 The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves
such as have a contrite spirit.
1 Pet 3:10-12
10 ..."He who would love life and see good days, let him refrain
his tongue from evil, and his lips from speaking deceit.
11 Let him turn away from evil and do good; let him seek peace
and pursue it.
12 For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears
are open to their prayers; but the face of the Lord is against
those who do evil."
Prov 21:23-24
23 Whoever guards his mouth and tongue keeps his soul from troubles.
24 A proud and haughty man--" Scoffer" is his name; he acts with
arrogant pride.
Ps 64:8-9
8 ... He will make them stumble over their own tongue; all who
see them shall flee away.
9 All men shall fear, and shall declare the work of God; for they
shall wisely consider His doing.
1 Cor 12:1,4,8,10-11
1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you
to be ignorant:
4 There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.
8 for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to
another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit,
10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to
another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues,
to another the interpretation of tongues.
11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing
to each one individually as He wills.
1 Cor 14:1-33
1 Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that
you may prophesy.
2 For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God,
for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.
3 But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and
comfort to men.
4 He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies
edifies the church.
5 I wish you all spoke with tongues, but even more that you prophesied;
for he who prophesies is greater than he who speaks with tongues,
unless indeed he interprets, that the church may receive edification.
6 But now, brethren, if I come to you speaking with tongues, what
shall I profit you unless I speak to you either by revelation,
by knowledge, by prophesying, or by teaching?
7 Even things without life, whether flute or harp, when they make
a sound, unless they make a distinction in the sounds, how will
it be known what is piped or played?
8 For if the trumpet makes an uncertain sound, who will prepare
himself for battle?
9 So likewise you, unless you utter by the tongue words easy to
understand, how will it be known what is spoken? For you will
be speaking into the air.
10 There are, it may be, so many kinds of languages in the world,
and none of them is without significance.
11 Therefore, if I do not know the meaning of the language, I
shall be a foreigner to him who speaks, and he who speaks will
be a foreigner to me.
12 Even so you, since you are zealous for spiritual gifts, let
it be for the edification of the church that you seek to excel.
13 Therefore let him who speaks in a tongue pray that he may interpret.
14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding
is unfruitful.
15 What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and
I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the
spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding.
16 Otherwise, if you bless with the spirit, how will he who occupies
the place of the uninformed say "Amen" at your giving of thanks,
since he does not understand what you say?
17 For you indeed give thanks well, but the other is not edified.
18 I thank my God I speak with tongues more than you all;
19 yet in the church I would rather speak five words with my understanding,
that I may teach others also, than ten thousand words in a tongue.
20 Brethren, do not be children in understanding; however, in
malice be babes, but in understanding be mature.
21 In the law it is written: "With men of other tongues and other
lips I will speak to this people; and yet, for all that, they
will not hear Me," says the Lord.
22 Therefore tongues are for a sign, not to those who believe
but to unbelievers; but prophesying is not for unbelievers but
for those who believe.
23 Therefore if the whole church comes together in one place,
and all speak with tongues, and there come in those who are uninformed
or unbelievers, will they not say that you are out of your mind?
24 But if all prophesy, and an unbeliever or an uninformed person
comes in, he is convinced by all, he is convicted by all.
25 And thus the secrets of his heart are revealed; and so, falling
down on his face, he will worship God and report that God is truly
among you.
26 How is it then, brethren? Whenever you come together, each
of you has a psalm, has a teaching, has a tongue, has a revelation,
has an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification.
27 If anyone speaks in a tongue, let there be two or at the most
three, each in turn, and let one interpret.
28 But if there is no interpreter, let him keep silent in church,
and let him speak to himself and to God.
29 Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others judge.
30 But if anything is revealed to another who sits by, let the
first keep silent.
31 For you can all prophesy one by one, that all may learn and
all may be encouraged.
32 And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.
33 For God is not the author of confusion but of peace, as in
all the churches of the saints.
Eph 4:25-27,31-32
25 Therefore, putting away lying, "Let each one of you speak truth
with his neighbor," for we are members of one another.
26 "Be angry, and do not sin": do not let the sun go down on your
wrath,
27 nor give place to the devil.
31 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking
be put away from you, with all malice.
32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another,
just as God in Christ forgave you.
Titus 3:1-2
1 ... be subject to rulers and authorities, to obey, to be ready
for every good work,
2 to speak evil of no one, to be peaceable, gentle, showing all
humility to all men.
Col 3:9
9 Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man
with his deeds,
1 Pet 3:10-15
10 ... "He who would love life and see good days, let him refrain
his tongue from evil, and his lips from speaking deceit.
11 Let him turn away from evil and do good; let him seek peace
and pursue it.
12 For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears
are open to their prayers; but the face of the Lord is against
those who do evil."
13 And who is he who will harm you if you become followers of
what is good?
14 But even if you should suffer for righteousness' sake, you
are blessed. "And do not be afraid of their threats, nor be troubled."
15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready
to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope
that is in you, with meekness and fear;
Matt 5:11-12
11 "Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say
all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake.
12 "Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward
in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before
you.
Ps 15:1-3
1 LORD, who may abide in Your tabernacle? Who may dwell in Your
holy hill?
2 He who walks uprightly, and works righteousness, and speaks
the truth in his heart;
3 He who does not backbite with his tongue, nor does evil to his
neighbor, nor does he take up a reproach against his friend;
Prov 10:19-21
19 In the multitude of words sin is not lacking, but he who restrains
his lips is wise.
20 The tongue of the righteous is choice silver; the heart of
the wicked is worth little.
21 The lips of the righteous feed many, but fools die for lack
of wisdom.
James 5:12
12 ...above all, my brethren, do not swear, either by heaven or
by earth or with any other oath. But let your "Yes," be "Yes,"
and your "No," "No," lest you fall into judgment.
Rev 21:10-11,27
10 ... he carried me away in the Spirit to a great and high mountain,
and showed me the great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out
of heaven from God,
11 having the glory of God....
27 ... there shall by no means enter it anything that defiles,
or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written
in the Lamb's Book of Life.
May God bless the reading
of His Word.
Heb 4:12
12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than
any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and
spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts
and intents of the heart.
