Hosea 13:6,15
6 When they... were filled; they were filled and their heart was
exalted; therefore they forgot Me.
15 Though he is fruitful among his brethren, an east wind shall
come; the wind of the LORD shall come up from the wilderness.
Then his spring shall become dry, and his fountain shall be dried
up...
Ps 49:1-20
1 Hear this, all peoples; give ear, all inhabitants of the world,
2 Both low and high, rich and poor together.
3 My mouth shall speak wisdom, and the meditation of my heart
shall give understanding.
4 I will incline my ear to a proverb; I will disclose my dark
saying on the harp.
5 Why should I fear in the days of evil, when the iniquity at
my heels surrounds me?
6 Those who trust in their wealth and boast in the multitude of
their riches,
7 None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to
God a ransom for him--
8 For the redemption of their souls is costly, and it shall cease
forever--
9 That he should continue to live eternally, and not see the Pit.
10 For he sees wise men die; likewise the fool and the senseless
person perish, and leave their wealth to others.
11 Their inner thought is that their houses will last forever,
their dwelling places to all generations; they call their lands
after their own names.
12 Nevertheless man, though in honor, does not remain; he is like
the beasts that perish.
13 This is the way of those who are foolish, and of their posterity
who approve their sayings...
14 Like sheep they are laid in the grave; death shall feed on
them; the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning;
and their beauty shall be consumed in the grave, far from their
dwelling.
15 But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave, for
He shall receive me...
16 Do not be afraid when one becomes rich, when the glory of his
house is increased;
17 For when he dies he shall carry nothing away; his glory shall
not descend after him.
18 Though while he lives he blesses himself (For men will praise
you when you do well for yourself),
19 He shall go to the generation of his fathers; they shall never
see light.
20 A man who is in honor, yet does not understand, is like the
beasts that perish.
Ps 62:9-12
9 Surely men of low degree are a vapor, men of high degree are
a lie; if they are weighed on the scales, they are altogether
lighter than vapor.
10 Do not trust in oppression, nor vainly hope in robbery; if
riches increase, do not set your heart on them.
11 God has spoken once, twice I have heard this: that power belongs
to God.
12 Also to You, O Lord, belongs mercy; for You render to each
one according to his work.
Job 34:19-22,25-27
19 ... He is not partial to princes, nor does He regard the rich
more than the poor; for they are all the work of His hands.
20 In a moment they die, in the middle of the night; the people
are shaken and pass away; the mighty are taken away without a
hand.
21 "For His eyes are on the ways of man, and He sees all his steps.
22 There is no darkness nor shadow of death where the workers
of iniquity may hide themselves.
25 ...he knows their works; he overthrows them in the night, and
they are crushed.
26 He strikes them as wicked men in the open sight of others,
27 Because they turned back from Him, and would not consider any
of His ways,
Prov 8:10-21
10 Receive my instruction, and not silver, and knowledge rather
than choice gold;
11 For wisdom is better than rubies, and all the things one may
desire cannot be compared with her.
12 "I, wisdom, dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge and
discretion.
13 The fear of the LORD is to hate evil; pride and arrogance and
the evil way and the perverse mouth I hate.
14 Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom; I am understanding, I have
strength.
15 By me kings reign, and rulers decree justice.
16 By me princes rule, and nobles, all the judges of the earth.
17 I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently
will find me.
18 Riches and honor are with me, enduring riches and righteousness.
19 My fruit is better than gold, yes, than fine gold, and my revenue
than choice silver.
20 I traverse the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths
of justice,
21 That I may cause those who love me to inherit wealth, that
I may fill their treasuries.
Prov 11:25-28
25 The generous soul will be made rich, and he who waters will
also be watered himself.
26 The people will curse him who withholds grain, but blessing
will be on the head of him who sells it.
27 He who earnestly seeks good finds favor, but trouble will come
to him who seeks evil.
28 He who trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous will
flourish like foliage.
Prov 13:7-11,22,25
7 There is one who makes himself rich, yet has nothing; and one
who makes himself poor, yet has great riches.
8 The ransom of a man's life is his riches, but the poor does
not hear rebuke.
9 The light of the righteous rejoices, but the lamp of the wicked
will be put out.
10 By pride comes nothing but strife, but with the well-advised
is wisdom.
11 Wealth gained by dishonesty will be diminished, but he who
gathers by labor will increase.
22 A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children,
but the wealth of the sinner is stored up for the righteous.
25 The righteous eats to the satisfying of his soul, but the stomach
of the wicked shall be in want.
Prov 22:1-2,4,7,9,16-23
1 A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, loving
favor rather than silver and gold.
2 The rich and the poor have this in common, the LORD is the maker
of them all.
4 By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches and honor and
life.
7 The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is servant to
the lender.
9 He who has a generous eye will be blessed, for he gives of his
bread to the poor.
16 He who oppresses the poor to increase his riches, and he who
gives to the rich, will surely come to poverty.
17 Incline your ear and hear the words of the wise, and apply
your heart to my knowledge;
18 For it is a pleasant thing if you keep them within you; let
them all be fixed upon your lips,
19 So that your trust may be in the LORD; I have instructed you
today, even you.
20 Have I not written to you excellent things of counsels and
knowledge,
21 That I may make you know the certainty of the words of truth,
that you may answer words of truth to those who send to you?
22 Do not rob the poor because he is poor, nor oppress the afflicted
at the gate;
23 For the LORD will plead their cause, and plunder the soul of
those who plunder them.
Prov 28:6,8,11-12,27
6 Better is the poor who walks in his integrity than one perverse
in his ways, though he be rich.
8 One who increases his possessions by usury and extortion gathers
it for him who will pity the poor.
11 The rich man is wise in his own eyes, but the poor who has
understanding searches him out.
12 When the righteous rejoice, there is great glory; but when
the wicked arise, men hide themselves.
27 He who gives to the poor will not lack, but he who hides his
eyes will have many curses.
Prov 29:3
3 Whoever loves wisdom makes his father rejoice, but a companion
of harlots wastes his wealth.
Eccl 4:8
8 There is one alone, without companion: he has neither son nor
brother. Yet there is no end to all his labors, nor is his eye
satisfied with riches. But he never asks, "For whom do I toil
and deprive myself of good?" This also is vanity and a grave misfortune.
Eccl 5:10-20
10 He who loves silver will not be satisfied with silver; nor
he who loves abundance, with increase. This also is vanity.
11 When goods increase, they increase who eat them; so what profit
have the owners except to see them with their eyes?
12 The sleep of a laboring man is sweet, whether he eats little
or much; but the abundance of the rich will not permit him to
sleep.
13 There is a severe evil which I have seen under the sun: riches
kept for their owner to his hurt.
14 But those riches perish through misfortune; when he begets
a son, there is nothing in his hand.
15 As he came from his mother's womb, naked shall he return, to
go as he came; and he shall take nothing from his labor which
he may carry away in his hand.
16 And this also is a severe evil-- just exactly as he came, so
shall he go. And what profit has he who has labored for the wind?
17 All his days he also eats in darkness, and he has much sorrow
and sickness and anger.
18 Here is what I have seen: It is good and fitting for one to
eat and drink, and to enjoy the good of all his labor in which
he toils under the sun all the days of his life which God gives
him; for it is his heritage.
19 As for every man to whom God has given riches and wealth, and
given him power to eat of it, to receive his heritage and rejoice
in his labor-- this is the gift of God.
20 For he will not dwell unduly on the days of his life, because
God keeps him busy with the joy of his heart.
Eccl 6:1-12
1 There is an evil which I have seen under the sun, and it is
common among men:
2 A man to whom God has given riches and wealth and honor, so
that he lacks nothing for himself of all he desires; yet God does
not give him power to eat of it, but a foreigner consumes it.
This is vanity, and it is an evil affliction.
3 If a man begets a hundred children and lives many years, so
that the days of his years are many, but his soul is not satisfied
with goodness, or indeed he has no burial, I say that a stillborn
child is better than he--
4 for it comes in vanity and departs in darkness, and its name
is covered with darkness.
5 Though it has not seen the sun or known anything, this has more
rest than that man,
6 even if he lives a thousand years twice-- but has not seen goodness.
Do not all go to one place?
7 All the labor of man is for his mouth, and yet the soul is not
satisfied.
8 For what more has the wise man than the fool? What does the
poor man have, who knows how to walk before the living?
9 Better is the sight of the eyes than the wandering of desire.
This also is vanity and grasping for the wind.
10 Whatever one is, he has been named already, for it is known
that he is man; and he cannot contend with Him who is mightier
than he.
11 Since there are many things that increase vanity, how is man
the better?
12 For who knows what is good for man in life, all the days of
his vain life which he passes like a shadow? Who can tell a man
what will happen after him under the sun?
Eccl 10:19-20
19 A feast is made for laughter, and wine makes merry; but money
answers everything.
20 Do not curse the king, even in your thought; do not curse the
rich, even in your bedroom; for a bird of the air may carry your
voice, and a bird in flight may tell the matter.
Jer 17:10-11
10 I, the LORD, search the heart, I test the mind, even to give
every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his
doings.
11 "As a partridge that broods but does not hatch, so is he who
gets riches, but not by right; it will leave him in the midst
of his days, and at his end he will be a fool."
John 3:26-27
26 And they came to John and said to him, "Rabbi, He who was with
you beyond the Jordan, to whom you have testified-- behold, He
is baptizing, and all are coming to Him!"
27 John answered and said, "A man can receive nothing unless it
has been given to him from heaven.
Mark 10:17-31
17 Now as He was going out on the road, one came running, knelt
before Him, and asked Him, "Good Teacher, what shall I do that
I may inherit eternal life?"
18 So Jesus said to him, "Why do you call Me good? No one is good
but One, that is, God.
19 "You know the commandments: 'Do not commit adultery,' 'Do not
murder,' 'Do not steal,' 'Do not bear false witness,' 'Do not
defraud,' 'Honor your father and your mother.'"
20 And he answered and said to Him, "Teacher, all these I have
observed from my youth."
21 Then Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, "One
thing you lack: Go your way, sell whatever you have and give to
the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, take
up the cross, and follow Me."
22 But he was sad at this word, and went away sorrowful, for he
had great possessions.
23 Then Jesus looked around and said to His disciples, "How hard
it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God!"
24 And the disciples were astonished at His words. But Jesus answered
again and said to them, "Children, how hard it is for those who
trust in riches to enter the kingdom of God!
25 "It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle
than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."
26 And they were greatly astonished, saying among themselves,
"Who then can be saved?"
27 But Jesus looked at them and said, "With men it is impossible,
but not with God; for with God all things are possible."
28 Then Peter began to say to Him, "See, we have left all and
followed You."
29 So Jesus answered and said, "Assuredly, I say to you, there
is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or father
or mother or wife or children or lands, for My sake and the gospel's,
30 "who shall not receive a hundredfold now in this time-- houses
and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with
persecutions-- and in the age to come, eternal life.
31 "But many who are first will be last...
Mark 12:38-44
38 Then He said to them in His teaching, "Beware of the scribes,
who desire to go around in long robes, love greetings in the marketplaces,
39 "the best seats in the synagogues, and the best places at feasts,
40 "who devour widows' houses, and for a pretense make long prayers.
These will receive greater condemnation."
41 Now Jesus sat opposite the treasury and saw how the people
put money into the treasury. And many who were rich put in much.
42 Then one poor widow came and threw in two mites, which make
a quadrans.
43 So He called His disciples to Himself and said to them, "Assuredly,
I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all those
who have given to the treasury;
44 "for they all put in out of their abundance, but she out of
her poverty put in all that she had, her whole livelihood."
2 Cor 9:6-15
6 ...He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who
sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.
7 So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly
or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.
8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you,
always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance
for every good work.
9 As it is written: "He has dispersed abroad, he has given to
the poor; his righteousness endures forever."
10 Now may He who supplies seed to the sower, and bread for food,
supply and multiply the seed you have sown and increase the fruits
of your righteousness,
11 while you are enriched in everything for all liberality, which
causes thanksgiving through us to God.
12 For the administration of this service not only supplies the
needs of the saints, but also is abounding through many thanksgivings
to God,
13 while, through the proof of this ministry, they glorify God
for the obedience of your confession to the gospel of Christ,
and for your liberal sharing with them and all men,
14 and by their prayer for you, who long for you because of the
exceeding grace of God in you.
15 Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!
1 Tim 6:6-19
6 Now godliness with contentment is great gain.
7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we
can carry nothing out.
8 And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content.
9 But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare,
and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction
and perdition.
10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which
some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced
themselves through with many sorrows.
11 But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness,
godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness.
12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to
which you were also called and have confessed the good confession
in the presence of many witnesses.
13 I urge you in the sight of God who gives life to all things,
and before Christ Jesus who witnessed the good confession before
Pontius Pilate,
14 that you keep this commandment without spot, blameless until
our Lord Jesus Christ's appearing,
15 which He will manifest in His own time, He who is the blessed
and only Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of lords,
16 who alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light,
whom no man has seen or can see, to whom be honor and everlasting
power. Amen.
17 Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty,
nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives
us richly all things to enjoy.
18 Let them do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to
give, willing to share,
19 storing up for themselves a good foundation for the time to
come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.
James 1:9-11
9 Let the lowly brother glory in his exaltation,
10 but the rich in his humiliation, because as a flower of the
field he will pass away.
11 For no sooner has the sun risen with a burning heat than it
withers the grass; its flower falls, and its beautiful appearance
perishes. So the rich man also will fade away in his pursuits.
James 5:1-5
1 Come now, you rich, weep and howl for your miseries that are
coming upon you!
2 Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth-eaten.
3 Your gold and silver are corroded, and their corrosion will
be a witness against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You
have heaped up treasure in the last days.
4 Indeed the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which
you kept back by fraud, cry out; and the cries of the reapers
have reached the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth.
5 You have lived on the earth in pleasure and luxury; you have
fattened your hearts as in a day of slaughter.
Ps 89:11-12
11 The heavens are Yours, the earth also is Yours; the world and
all its fullness, You have founded them.
12 The north and the south, You have created them;...
Ps 107:8-9
8 Oh, that men would give thanks to the LORD for His goodness,
and for His wonderful works to the children of men!
9 For He satisfies the longing soul, and fills the hungry soul
with goodness.
May God bless the reading
of His Word.
Heb 4:12
12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than
any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and
spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts
and intents of the heart.
